What To Expect

Taking Care of Your Mental Health Has Never Been Easier

Online Psychology Counselling, Telehealth, Virtual Therapy – no matter what you call it, we’ve laid out some information to help you understand what’s involved with booking and participating in a video or phone therapy session. We’ve also answered some Frequently Asked Questions to help you in your search for a suitable online psychologist.

Step 1

Choose Your Psychologist

Select from our team of registered psychologists by viewing their area of training and experience. Choose based on what will best suit your needs. If you are still unsure after reading each of their profiles, please contact us, to have a discussion with our helpful staff.

Step 2

Book Your Appointment

Once you have chosen your therapist, you will be redirected to their online booking platform. Select a time and day from the available appointments in your therapist's calendar, that best works for you.

Step 3

Contact Information

Once you have selected your preferred appointment, you will be prompted to complete your basic contact information to secure your appointment. Only the therapist you have booked with can see your contact information.

Step 4

Check Your Email

Once you have booked your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email which will include a secure link to your video consultation.
When it is time for your session, click on the link to join and speak with your therapist.

Step 5

Consent Form

If it is your first time using Psychology Link Australia, you will be sent an email with a link to complete a confidential Consent Form. Please complete this form ahead of your scheduled appointment - your psychologist will use the information provided to tailor their therapeutic support to your needs.

Step 6

Attending Your Session

When it is time, find a comfortable and private space for your session. Click on the secure video link. You will first enter a virtual waiting room and your psychologist will invite you in when it is time to begin. If it is your first session, your psychologist will have a discussion with you around your current difficulties to formulate the best approach to support you or your family/child.

Step 7

Making a Payment

If you are required to make a payment for your session, your psychologist will send you an invoice with the amount, due date and payment options. Bulk billing is supported in eligible circumstances.

For General Practitioners

Please include in the referral the clients email address and phone number. Clients seeking a Medicare rebate can book through our website by selecting the MHCP option where available for the psychologist they have chosen. If the psychologist chooses to bulk bill there will be no cost for the appointment as we will bill Medicare directly. After the sixth session and tenth session (if required), a progress report will be sent back to the referrer. We are happy to work closely with GP’s and other treating health professionals to ensure our clients get the most comprehensive service possible.

About Telehealth & PLA

Telehealth Therapy has many names – online therapy, e-therapy, group therapy sessions, distance therapy, virtual therapy, internet therapy…the list goes on. Regardless of the name, Telehealth Therapy allows the delivery of psychological therapy via the internet. We use software specifically designed for telehealth to deliver our online sessions in a secure and discreet way. You can find out more about Coviu here.

There is lots of evidence to support that psychological therapy delivered via Telehealth is just as effective as face to face therapy. You can read one of the studies here.

While there are many benefits from online therapy, there are also some risks and limitations you should be aware of before choosing this option:

  • At times there can be difficulties with technology including internet and computer/device failures
  • While we endeavour to provide secure communication, we can never guarantee that we won’t be hacked or fall prey to a computer virus. We will always do our utmost to ensure this doesn’t occur, it needs to be noted for your consideration. The same confidentiality principles apply to online therapy as they do in face to face therapy. Typically your session will be 50-60mins. Assessment sessions may take longer, but this will be discussed with you by your psychologist.

This will depend on your situation and what you are hoping to achieve. Your psychologist will give you an indication of how many sessions would be helpful after you have had your first session.

Payments & Cost

You can view our Fee Schedule here. You pay per session, there are no ongoing fees or monthly charges. 

For funding bodies such as the NDIS we will send you an invoice after you have completed your session with the details to make a payment. All payments are due within 7 days of receipt of the invoice. Please note there is a surcharge for payments made by credit/debit cards. For other fee types such as Medicare or Private health your psychologist will generally take payment via your stored stored credit card at the conclusion of your session and process the Medicare rebate and send you a receipt via email.

Our payment gateway provides a high level of security. All personal information is maintained and secured by a national payment processor. We never store any personal financial information ourselves.

No. Psychology Link Australia is an online psychology clinic, and as with traditional clinics we will require you to complete a client consent form which will be sent via email link with a secure form for you to complete ahead of your appointment. Your therapist will use this information to get to know you and better help with your support needs.
